- The swell forecast promised one of the biggest ever days of surf at Nazaré, and it didn't disappoint. On January 18, the Portuguese beast also known as Praia do Norte showed up with waves the size of mountains. Witness Portugal's giant turn it up to the max.

I love the purity of big wave riding. It's a sport where the rider is at the mercy of his skill and the incredible power of nature. Absolutely Amazing & humbling.

As much as I love these videos.....I just wish they could show a bit more of normal speed - which would be fantastic !! - and a little less of the slow(er) motion. It seems to be a common trait in this vids. (I also notice it in nature documentaries Planet Earth, Blue Planet etc ). oh ....would also be great to HEAR the waves and swells.

It's kind of a massive A-frame. Is there any wall to surf after the aframe breaks?
Being a beachbreak it´s kind of a lottery. When it's this big you have massive A-frame most of the time. The thing is you can't be picky or endanger yourself even more so you can´t tow into every wave. If you look at the footage you see amazing barrels more to the inside but it's very difficult and dangerous to approach them, you risk being pulled to the rocks
